Jameskiernan

Honorary Chairman James Kiernan

James T. Kiernan was formerly President of Goldman Sachs Canada Inc. and, prior thereto, a senior member of the Fixed Income Group of Goldman Sachs & Co. in London, where his account coverage responsibilities included the development of significant institutional relationships with Lloyd’s of London, Crown Agents, Morgan Grenfell, NM Rothschilds, Klienwort Benson, and Greek shipping interests.

He completed his Bachelor of Arts at Brown University and his Master of Business Administration at Harvard University. He is a past member of the Board of Directors of The Montreal Exchange, the American Friends of Canada, and the Canada-U.S. Fulbright Program. He is a past member of the Executive Committee of the Investment Dealers Association of Canada (1990-1992), as well as Chairman of its Capital Markets Committee.

Benn

Managing Partner & CEO Benn Mikula

Benn Mikula has over 30 years of experience in digital and related areas as an equities analyst, investment banker, board member and investor. He was a top-ranked analyst (in the Brendan Woods and other analyst polls) in technology and telecommunications technology whilst working at RBC Capital Markets; he subsequently ran the relevant industry research group.

He subsequently became Managing Director and Head of European Technology Investment Banking at JPMorgan.

During his tenure at JPMorgan, he advised major European Digital Infrastructure and telecoms equipment providers (most notably Nokia, Ericsson and Alcatel-Lucent). He advised on billions of dollars of capital raising, capital structure optimisation and M&A in Europe and North America.

Mr Mikula was a founder of a wireless communications company in Canada and was a founding Board Member of CoRadiant Inc., a first-generation cloud services and hosting company, where he played a key role in raising the initial funding. He also serves as a member of the Advisory Board of CloudOps. He has served on the boards of large public and private companies and is currently Chairman of Hudson Greenland. He is currently a Board Member of CRA and Hudson InterXchange and Chairman of Lumina Sustainable. He serves on the Property Committee of the regimental foundation of the Black Watch, Royal Highland Regiment of Canada. Mr Mikula holds a B.A. and an M.A. from McGill University.

Sauve

Managing Partner & Executive Chairman Jean-François Sauvé

Jean-François Sauvé has over 25 years of experience in the financial industry. He began his career at Barclays Bank in Toronto then, subsequently joined McLeod Young Weir Limited (rebranded ScotiaMcLeod Inc. and later Scotia Capital Markets). In 1993, became a Director of the Corporate and Government Finance Department.

Thereafter, he was named President of Pictet Canada L.P., where he was responsible for the North American operations of Pictet & Cie. Mr. Sauvé is also a principal advisor to a major European family office. He is Chairman of the Jeanne Sauvé Foundation. He completed his degree in Business Administration at l’école des Hautes études Commerciales (HEC Montréal) and later earned an MBA at INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France.

Steven Marshall

Chairman – Digital Infrastructure Steven Marshall

Prior to joining the Investment Manager, Mr Marshall was President of American Tower Corporation – US Tower Division. Whilst serving as President, AMT pioneered the network neutral telecommunications infrastructure model in the United States, Germany, France and 12 other countries in both communication towers and combinations of towers and fibre.

Mr Marshall had a material influence on making AMT the company it is today – the largest network neutral telecommunications infrastructure company in the world with a market capitalisation of over US$100 billion.

Prior to AMT, he built National Grid Wireless into the largest network neutral tower infrastructure provider in Europe. Subsequently sold to private equity interests, it became the core of Arqiva. He also developed and ran a US$1.5 billion fibre network in Brazil owned jointly by National Grid, France Telecom and Sprint. Most notable amongst his many acquisition and divestiture activities was his overseeing and the integration of leading two US$5 billion acquisitions whilst at AMT.

Mr Marshall is Chairman of Next Gen Access UK (a long-distance fibre developer) as well as a board member of Tawal – Saudi Telecoms newly formed Tower Subsidiary with 14,000 towers and Chairman of Paradigm Infrastructure, an African Tower Developer. Mr Marshall holds a BSc (Hons) in Building and Civil Engineering from the University of Manchester, as well as an MBA from Alliance Manchester Business School, United Kingdom.

Foss

Managing Director, Head of Capital Markets Stephen Foss

Stephen Foss brings over 35 years of experience in capital markets and investing, most notably at RBC Capital Markets, where he was a senior Managing Director. He was responsible for the International Equities business for Europe and Australasia and subsequently led a senior client coverage effort with a particular focus on sovereign wealth funds.

He subsequently joined the partnership of Merlin Partners LLP. Stephen was a member of the boards of Colombia-based Amerisur, Octant Energy plc (based in East Africa) and Nutraformis Ltd. He has served as a director of BOE Securities in South Africa. Mr Foss has a BA (Hons.) from the University of Western Ontario.

Managing Director, Energy Transition Infrastructure Peter Barrett-Lennard

Peter Barrett-Lennard has close to two decades of experience in financial markets. He joined the Investment Manager from Merlin Partners LLP, where he was a Partner.

Prior to Merlin Partners, he spent a decade at RBC Capital Markets, where he held senior roles in the advisory group focusing on agriculture, industrials, and the energy/materials complex. He gained broad experience in origination, M&A and debt and equity financings for companies in Europe, Asia, and Africa, and brings particular expertise in structuring complicated investment opportunities in emerging market economies. He joined RBC Capital Markets from PwC, where he was a Manager in Corporate Finance. He holds a BCom (Finance) from the University of Western Australia.

Managing Director, Head of Agriculture Cédric Garnier-Landurie

Cédric has worked for 10 years in the investment banking and investment management industry through management, investment, and operational roles. Cédric is the Co-Head of Agriculture Finance at Cordiant Capital.

Previously, Cédric was Chief Revenue Officer and founding member of Knox Industries, a digital risk management company offering insured digital asset custody solutions and insured infrastructure. Knox was backed by Fidelity Investments, Initialized Capital and iNovia Capital. Mr. Garnier-Landurie worked as an investment banker with merchant banking boutique Cheverny Capital focused on technology, media, and telecommunication (TMT) sector, food and food retail, engineering and industrials, and financial services sectors. Mr. Garnier-Landurie has gained broad experience in origination, M&A, debt and equity financings, and investing in companies across North America, Europe, Latin America, and Africa. Cédric brings expertise in understanding market structures, and structuring complex investment opportunities across industries, and jurisdictions. Cédric is also an investor for a major European family office, covering private asset classes. Cédric has a Bachelor of Commerce, Honours in Investment Management from the McGill University (Canada), and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

Chief Operating Officer Meekal Hashmi

Mr. Hashmi brings over 25 years of legal and operational experience to his role as COO. He joined Cordiant from S.P. Banque Privée, a private banking and family office, where he was responsible for legal, compliance, risk, human resources and corporate secretarial functions related to the running of the regulated bank.

Prior to this, he held in-house counsel positions at the Affiliated Managers Group, Neuberger Berman, Old Mutual Global Investors and Barings. He began his career at Trowers & Hamlins and Clifford Chance. He holds a BSc from the University of Edinburgh, and LLM in International Financial and Banking Law from the London School of Economics, and was admitted as a Solicitor in England & Wales in 1997.

Galassi

Group Chief Financial Officer Piero Galassi

Piero Galassi has more than 35 years of experience in Finance, Operations Management and M&A in diverse industries, with Canadian, US and International exposure.

Piero joined Cordiant in 2019 with prior roles at United Rentals Inc., LafargeHolcim, Wajax and Deloitte, including Director, Controller, Business Development and Auditor Roles where he drove initiatives enhancing controls and reporting systems, the creation of shared service centers, the acquisition and integration of over 50 companies, and the formulating and execution of strategic initiatives driving profitable growth including divestitures, restructuring and transformation plans.

Piero holds a Diploma in Public Accountancy, Graduate Studies and Research from McGill University and a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting and Finance) from McGill University. He is a member of the Quebec Order of Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) and had obtained his CA and CMA prior to the consolidation of the profession in 2012. 

Trotter

Managing Director Lori Trotter

Lori Trotter has 25+ years experience in the investment industry and is a long-time member of the Cordiant team, having previously overseen the office of the Chairman.

Over the years, Lori’s responsibilities have grown to include oversight of the Communications, Investor Relations and ESG & Impact functions. She began her career as a Procurement Officer in a large tech company and was responsible for negotiating and administering long-term contracts with international suppliers.

Lori has a B.A. from McGill University.
